Happy Mother’s Day to all of our moms!
We have another busy week ahead of us. Juniors take the On-Demand Writing test Monday and all sophomores take their ODW test on Tuesday. In addition, we continue with Advanced Placement testing the rest of this week. As we go into our 3rd week of testing, please encourage the kids and help them stay focused. They have been working really hard on these tough exams.
We also have the Senior Belle Ride this Thursday evening. It is fun event – if you have not attend before, please consider it. Being out on the river in the evening is so pleasant, and the kids have a great time just being together as a senior class.
PGES & KY FRAMEWORK FOR TEACHING
All teachers are required to report their Student Growth Goal results and complete an end-of-year reflection.
If you have not done so already, please submit your Student Growth Goal results on the special E2 form provided at the last faculty meeting to your supervising administrator. Every teacher must report student growth each year.
Also, each teacher is to complete an end-of-year reflection. The end-of-year reflection can be documented in a format of your choosing, and I provided an optional tool for reflection at our faculty meeting. If you are NOT in your summative evaluation year, please submit the reflection to your supervising principal by Monday, May 16.
PBIS Tip: “Student-Centered Classroom Setup”
As you start planning for next year, consider the message your classroom set-up sends to your students: is it one that values collaboration, student diversity and voice? Perhaps it’s time for a classroom re-structuring! While specifics will vary among teachers and classrooms, common elements of a student-centered classroom include the following:
- Classroom milieu: Multicultural images on the walls that represent the cultures of the students in your classes not only shows respect and showcases diversity, but models for students all they can achieve
- Arrangement of furniture and supplies: Arrangement should support collaboration, foster dialogue, encourage ownership and maximize comfort
- Student roles and responsibilities: Structure classrooms in ways to maximize student voice, participation and leadership
- Classroom norms: Involve students in the process of re-visiting classroom norms. Remember to take into account and honor the various cultural and communication differences and styles, and discuss school vs. community/home appropriate behaviors without devaluing behaviors that may work well in other contexts outside of the classroom

NEWS & UPDATES
√ Congratulations to Antone Towns who has accepted a position as SRT/PBIS Coach at Rangeland Elementary. He will start his new position May 23.
√ Save the Date: Our summer professional learning workshop will be June 8-9 this year. If you attend both days, you will earn 12 hours of professional development credit. There will be other opportunities for PD through a school-wide book study and district PD on specific content areas (that calendar should be coming out soon). Several departments will also plan learning and planning opportunities over the summer.
√ Also, the big Teacher Appreciation luncheon by the PTSA, also in the counseling suite, will be Wednesday, May 18 (the day after we are off for Election Day). This date is a little after Teacher Appreciation Week, but because of all of the testing going on, we did not want anyone to miss out.
√ We will follow the same final exam schedule the last 3 days of the school year that we used in December for mid-terms. I have attached here a sheet with all of our Bell Schedules, and exam schedules are on the 2nd page.
Tuesday, 5/24: 7th period exam
Wednesday, 5/25: 2nd period, 4th period, and 6th period exams
Thursday, 5/26: 1st period, 3rd period, and 5 period exams
